COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from shipowners and operators.

Non-IACS means Blue Wave Class operates independently of the International Association of Classification Societies. Our certificates are recognized by the flag administrations and port authorities we are authorized under, and are widely accepted by owners, charterers, and insurers working outside strict IACS-only trades. We're upfront with clients about which flags and ports recognize our class for their specific routes.

Most existing vessels transferring class can complete document review and an initial survey within 2–4 weeks, depending on the vessel's condition, age, and the availability of prior survey records. Newbuilding classification timelines depend on the construction schedule and are agreed with the shipyard at contract stage.

Yes. We review your vessel's existing class records, outstanding conditions, and survey history from your current society, then carry out a transfer survey to confirm continued compliance with our Rules. We handle the coordination directly with your outgoing class society where required.

Our surveyor network currently spans 46+ countries, concentrated around major trading and dry-dock hubs in Asia, the Middle East, and West Africa. For ports outside our standing network, we can deploy a surveyor or coordinate with a qualified local correspondent on a case-by-case basis.

Use the Certificate Verification tool above with the certificate number or vessel IMO number. Our registry team cross-checks every submitted certificate against our internal class database and confirms validity directly. For urgent checks, you're welcome to call our office during working hours.

Yes, where authorized. We carry out statutory surveys and issue certificates such as load line and safety equipment documentation on behalf of the flag administrations that have delegated this authority to us. We'll confirm our current authorization status for your specific flag during onboarding.
